Why Karen Handel Must Resign at Komen
Breast cancer doesn’t care which box you check when you register to vote, it doesn’t care about your religion, nor your skin color. What money you have doesn’t matter in the least to metastasizing breast cells if not caught early. Indeed to the insensate messengers of doom the only thing that really matters is where they can attach to a blood vessel and grow.
Breast cancer is an equal opportunity killer of our mothers, daughters, wives, and sisters. Sometimes it even kills men.* Breast cancer killed my mother after a lengthy battle that lasted years.
Breast cancer is an implacable foe, an indefatigable nemesis that everyone declares as enemy, something all people can agree to conquer. So fighting breast cancer should be a non partisan no brainer we all agree to combat, and it really was until Karen Handel came along.
Her decision to take her personal political mission to a non partisan charitable foundation displays such a height of selfishness and brazen level of pure zealotry that the only recovery at Komen is for her to resign.
I was a life long Republican until people like Karen Handel swamped all reason within the party, until her social conservative fellow travelers took over. No problem is more important to them than their political ambitions and that’s exactly why they can’t be trusted to run charitable foundation policy, and why they shouldn’t be trusted in public office.
If Komen really wants to recover from this debacle they will ask for Karen’s resignation. Karen decided to ride the wrong hobby horse by subverting an entire charitable foundation to her desire to defund Planned Parenthood, an agency that actually does great work preventing lots of cancer**. Everybody hates cancer, and now lots of people hate Karen for her insidious ambition to score political points through a supposedly non partisan charity.
* 1 percent of breast cancer occurs in males.
** Up to 75 percent of Planned parenthood services could be construed as combatting cancer, as the chart in this article demonstrates. STD’s can cause cancers, including male prostrate cancers, screening for and curing STD’s early helps prevent cancers. Contraception services come with a safe sex talk, and condoms prevent the spread of STD’s, again preventing cancers. Planned Parenthood cancer screening services catch and cure cancers early in patients who would otherwise go untreated.
